Advanced Medical Imaging

As part of my Master’s studies in Advanced Medical Imaging I developed a Bayesian statistical algorithm for quantifying fiber orientation in medical images. I tested the algorithm on Second Harmonic Generation and Polarized Light Microscopy images. These imaging modalities are used to gain insights into the structure of tissues.

Below are Polarized Light Microscopy images of scar tissue. The directions of the red arrows represent the results of the algorithm. The length of each arrow represents the strength of belief in that respective direction, a truly Bayesian approach to stochastic image processing.
